In honor of the recent release of the latest book in Lauren Willig’s Secret History Series, The Betrayal of the Blood Lily (I read it on my day off and it was excellent! One of her best) I am doing my first blog give-away! It’s a HARD COVER copy of The Secret History of the Pink Carnation, the first book in the series.

Wahoo! I'm a follower already. And my most favorite historical author of all time is Judith A. Lansdowne. She's just amazing! I love all of her books and could ramble on and on... but perhaps my favorite is either the Bedevilled Duke or her "Just" series.

I am now a follower, and I don't read a ton of historical fiction but I really like Phillipa Gregory. I enjoyed her series on the wives of Henry the Eighth, although The Other Boleyn Girl was my favorite and much better than the movie. Of course I love Lauren Willig - you don't get much better than her for romantic historical fiction.

I love Antonia Fraser and Margaret George.
Historical fiction and non-fiction are one my biggest loves in reading!

My favorite historical author is Linda Berdoll and her sequels to Pride and Prejudice. You wonder what happens after the weddings, and she has a wonderful idea. I also love Carolly Erickson, Margaret George, and Jean Plaidy. I have always loved to read, I grew up with my nose stuck in a book and a back up book ready to go just in case I finished the one I was reading. I have been trying to collect all my favorites in hardcover, from Anne Rice to Jane Austen. Some are easier than others to find. As for Lauren Willig after going from bookstore to used bookstore to bookstore, I have all but the first two (the hardest ones to find) in hardcover.
ReplyDeleteGoodness! I love pretty much any historical fiction book! The one that comes to mind though when I think of a favorite is on about King Brian Boru (or Brian of Boruma). I read, and re-read this book many times as a teenager. I cannot, for the life of me, remember the title. We are talking a good 30 years ago!

ReplyDeleteThe best historical fiction novel I read was "Lady of Milkweed Manor" by Julie Klassen.
Besides being an awesome writer, it's obvious how much research goes into her novels, and the way she weaves historical facts into her stories is amazing. She's truly one of the most talented authors I've read.
Her second novel - "The Apothecary's Daughter" was excellent as well. And she has a third one coming out soon, but I can't quite remember the name of it. Can't wait to read it though.

I would love to read this book. I'm a new follower now! My favorite historical fiction books are written by Philippa Gregory, including The Other Boleyn Girl. I love reading about English court life. I also like Kaye Gibbons, particularly Charms for the Easy Life. She is a southern writer and her books are beautiful!

HUGE fan of Lauren Willig, Phillipa Gregory and of course Jane Austen (although I'm not sure she counts lol) My fav books: Other Boleyn Girl, Gone with the Wind, The Queen's Fool & Pink Carnations series (off the top of my head)
ReplyDeleteWow - only writing about one historical fiction book is like going to a dessert store and trying to choose which item to enjoy! I agree with so many other posters about favorite authors, but the one that most recently I have been unable to mentally walk away from would be The Rose of Sebastopol by Katherine McMahon. I judged this book by its cover (since it's sort of styled like Ms Willig's) and found it utterly gripping.

ReplyDeleteLauren Willig is one of my absolute favorite authors, but in addition some of my other favorites are Susan Carroll, Sabrina Jeffries, and the wonderful Julia Quinn. But, since I can't ever pick out just ONE favorite book, I'm going to pick the one I'm reading right now (Susan Carroll's Twilight of a Queen). It's utterly and completely fantastic! :)
I would have to say my favorite historical fiction novel, well my favorite book period, would be The Masque of the Black Tulip. Lauren is my ABSOLUTE, TOTAL, favorite author. I really love all her books. Another author(even though you only said one)I absolutley love is Tracy Grant. I just read her Secrets of a Lady, and it was spectacular!
ReplyDeleteWow, there are so many it's difficult to choose! Of course the classics... you can't beat Jane Austen. But my all-time favorites would have to be Pink Carnation (Lauren Willig), Rebel Angels (Libba Bray), Cleopatra (Margaret George), and Shadow Music (Julie Garwood). Historical fiction is an incredible genre!

I have to say, I love Lauren Willig's books. I had always loved historical fiction, and contemporary romance, and had never found a good combination of the two until the Carnation series.
ReplyDeleteI kept raving about how much I loved them, and my best friend watched me read one one time (and said it was way more interesting because I would laugh out loud, often). Wondering what all the fuss was about she read it herself. When she finished she said that the books encompassed me, my humor, and my love of romance, history, and historical references in the modern day.
Of all of her books, hands down, The Mask of the Black Tulip is my favorite. I can't pinpoint any exact reasons why, I just love it!

Yep, looks like I'm a follower now, I see my space shuttle in the corner there. ;) Oh geez, favorite -- well, I certainly love Lauren Willig, and Julia Quinn, Amanda Quick, Elizabeth Boyle, Jane Austen, and everyone else that I can't think of at the moment. But if I must pick one, the safest thing to do is pick the first historical fiction (in romance anyway) author I ever read, and that would be Lisa Kleypas. Pretty good introduction, I'd say! :)

it is about a woman who is staying at the ritz in paris. the paparazi confuse her for princess diana and take a ton of pictures that day. the next day is the day of princess dianas death and the main character starts hearing all of princess dianas thoughts in her head
